Arun Valley Trek Itinerary

  • Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m).

    On your arrival in Nepal, a company representative will receive you at the Tribhuvan International Airport. After a drive to your hotel, you are free to rest and explore the nearby places. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 2 Sightseeing tour of Kathmandu.

    This day commences your trip to Nepal. Today, we explore the UNESCO enlisted world heritage sites in the city including the Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Pashupatinath is one of the biggest Hindu pilgrimage sites whereas Swayambhunath and Boudhanath are Buddhist stupas. Kathmandu Durbar Square comprises of palaces and historic monuments from the Malla dynasty. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 3 Kathmandu to Biratnagar flight and drive to Hile (1,800m).

    Wake up early and get on a flight that leads to Biratnagar. The flight lasts for about 30 to 40 minutes. As you land in Biratnagar, you'll be greeted by a warm climate and humid environment. From the airport, we begin the short drive towards Hile. The drive through the eastern landscape of Nepal provides a spectacular view of the Terai lowland. Overnight stay at Hile.  

  • Day 4 Hille trekking to Tumlingtar (460m).

    The trail for the day takes us along the river bank ofArun and here you can see some wildlife like birds and monkeys. The downward trek is prone to cool breezes and you can feel the Arun valley enchant you. We gradually descend to Tumlingtar. Tumlingtar lies near the confluence of the Arun River and Sabha Khola. Overnight stay at Tumlingtar. 

  • Day 5 Tumlingtar trekking to Kattike (300m).

    We shall walk on the main trail that goes through the Kumal Gaon. Follow the Arun River in the east and take some rest at Satighat village. Taste the local cuisine at the Chyawabesi village. Walk amidst the sun tropical forests and head south. The Arun River enchants you and the people residing there each have their own story. After walking the whole day, we arrive at Kattike village. Overnight stay at Kattike.

  • Day 6 Kattike trekking to Gothe Bazaar (775m).

    Walk amidst the terraced rice fields on the banks of the mighty Arun River and later taste some delicious cuisine at the Baluwa Bensi village. Walk through Sal forests and climb hills to witness amorous views of the surrounding environment. We pass the Rai village of Manduwa and walk along the northern bank of the Irkhuwa Khola.Admire the steamy landscape of Banana plantation as you arrive at Gothe Bazaar. Overnight stay at Gothe Bazaar.

  • Day 7 Gothe trekking to Dobhane (920m).

    We have to walk for approximately 3 hours to reach Dobhane. Initially crossing the rice fields and wooden bridges, we trek along the Bengkhawa River. You can even visit the small factories which produce Lokta papers. We cross villages of Rai and Sherpa communities and interact with the locals there. After we pass Sigane, we reach Dobhane. Overnight stay at Dobhane.

  • Day 8 Dobhane trekking to Phedi (1,680m).

    As we go through the sprawling settlements of Tallo Phedi, we can see small slate roofed houses. The trail is uphill and requires a lot of vigor. As we go through damp patches, we can see rice plantation in the Irkhuwa valley. Crossing bamboo bridges over the Sanu Khola, we arrive at Phedi. Overnight stay at Phedi.  

  • Day 9 Phedi trekking to Guranse (2,80m).

    The route from Phedi to Guranse sees a drastic increase in elevation and we shall walk on a path that provides a surreal view of the Irkhuwa Khola and the Sanu Khola. As we climb for about 100 m, we reach Jaubire and later the lively settlement of Thulo Fokte. We go through forests of oak and birch and later head to Guranse. Overnight stay at Guranse.

  • Day 10 Guranse trekking to Sanam (2,850m).

    We begin the trek through Mani walls and dense forests. Tracing the trails through forests of oak and rhododendron, we take a brief exploration session at Salpa Pokhari. From here, we walk long a stream and head onto the damp forests. Shortly after, we cross the Salpa Bhanjyang and walk along the Rune Danda.It is also the final hurdle before Sanam. Overnight stay at Sanam.

  • Day 11 Sanam trekking to Bung (1,900m).

    The initial part of the day sees dense forests of Rhododendron and oak. Explore the paper factory nearby and visit the old Gompa as well. From Sorung, we are exposed to the lush valley of Gudel. Passing Chachalung, we make a gradual ascent to Gudel. This is a primitive Rai village and can is pretty generous to offer the culture of the Rai people. From here, we descend to Bung. Overnight stay at Bung.

  • Day 12 Bung trekking to Surke la (3,085m).

    As we head upwards, we can see the farmlands becoming huge and rich with a variety of crops. Interact with the locals here and later enjoy glorious views over the Hongu valley. Cross the hillside decorated by Mani walls and later visit the Khiraule Gompa. You can enjoy the soaring view of the surrounding valley and the hills. As we pass the Charakot Valley, we reach the Surke La. Overnight stay at Surke La.

  • Day 13 Surke La trekking to Gai Kharka (2,300m).

    The trail sees a gradual decrease in elevation and later goes through a bamboo forest. We cross the Najingdingma village and we are greeted by a lush view of the surrounding valley. We later go through green forests to reach Gai Kharka. You can see animals grazing here and sheepherders tending to them. Overnight stay at Gai Kharka. 

  • Day 14 Gai Kharka trekking to Panggom (2,804m).

    The trail for the day sees a battle through humidity and we have to cross the Hinku Khola on a steel bridge. You will be blessed by 2 waterfalls and the path later sees an almost vertical ascent until we reach Sibuje. We shall visit the Gompa as well. The trail goes through rhododendron forests and we can enjoy the amazing view from the Panggom La Pass (3830m). Overnight stay at Panggom. 

  • Day 15 Panggom trekking to Paiya (2,730m).

    We are nearing the end of this arduous trek. The trail initially descends and later climbs up to the Kari La (3,145m). The trail joins the route to Lukla and we can clearly see the significant rise in Buddhist practices of the Sherpa and Rai communities along the way. The terrain is confusing as it is a blend of ups, downs, and rocks. We finally arrive at Paiya and from here, we can see the Dudh Koshi River. Overnight stay at Paiya.

  • Day 16 Paiya trekking to Lukla.

    The trail from Paiya to Lukla is relatively easy and can be done within a few hours. Leaving Paiya, we head to the top of Chutok La Pass (2,945m). Crossing Pakhapani, we move towards Surke and make a final ascent to Lukla crossing Handi Khola en route. Upon arrival in Lukla interact with the locals and transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay at Lukla.

  • Day 17 Flight back to Kathmandu.

    From Lukla, get on an airplane and head towards Kathmandu. The flight lasts for about an hour and you can see the beautiful scenery of the mountains of the Khumbu region. Upon arrival in Kathmandu transfer to your hotel. You can explore the local markets and vintage Newari locales. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 18 Free day in Kathmandu.

    Today is a free day, which can be used either to explore the Kathmandu valley or you can use it to rest. The valley and its outskirts are great for short tours and hikes. You can taste the local cuisines and do some shopping for souvenirs as well. Enjoy a delicious dinner before your final departure. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu. 

  • Day 19 Final Departure, Airport Drop.

    Today is your final day in Nepal and our representative will drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure. We also hope to serve you on the next trip to Nepal.
